ATMC Wireless

ATMC, in partnership with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office is committed to educating our community, especially our youth, about the dangers of texting while driving.

Studies show that talking and texting on the cell phone
while driving is as DANGEROUS
as
driving drunk.

Did You Know?

  • Texting and driving is like driving after having 4 beers!
  • Traffic accidents are the number one killer of U.S. teens-distracted driving being one of the leading 2 causes.
  • Texting while driving is illegal in North Carolina. Using any technology that provides access to digital media while driving is also banned.
  • On average texting takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. If you are traveling at 55mph, that's like crossing an entire football field without looking up!
  • You are 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash when you text behind the wheel.
  • In 2009, distracted driving injured over 448,000 people in the US.

Texting Tips

  • No text message is worth dying for! Put your phone away to avoid temptation.
  • Parents, set a good example by not texting and driving, especially if you have teenage passengers.
  • Driving a car will probably be the most dangerous task you do all day. Focus on the road, not your phone!
  • Think about others. Don't send a text to someone if you know they're driving.
  • Remember, when you are driving, all distractions are hazardous. Refrain from using your phone to take pictures, send and read email messages, record video or watch TV while driving.

Ask yourself this question:

Is risking your life or that of others to send a text message or check your Facebook status really worth the consequences?
